This sanctuary rescues semi-wild orang utans from captivity and trains them to survive in the surrounding forest reserve. The rehabilitated animals roam freely in the rain forest and often return to the centre at feeding time. The successful breeding programme at Semenggoh often provides the heart-warming sight of an orang utan mother with a young baby. Other animals such as hornbills, honey bears and monkeys, which have been orphaned or illegally kept, are also rehabilitated.
There are a number of rain forest plants and short jungle trails at the sanctuary, and optional forest walks can be incorporated into the tour. |
